Olive Edwards was born in Liverpool in 1908. At the age of 16 she went to work and then train at the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital in Myrtle Street. In 1930 she commenced her general training at the Royal Infirmary. She completed her Midwifery training and then returned to the Children’s hospital as a Ward Sister.

Following the death of the Sister Tutor, she was invited by the Matron to take over the nurse training. Aware that she had no teaching qualifications, she went to Kings College in London for 2 years, at her own expense, to obtain her Tutors certificate.

She returned to the Children’s and became Senior Tutor and by the time she retired was a GNC examiner setting exams for all the Children’s nurses who were training in England and Wales.

She retired to the Lake District and then, following an accident 11 years ago, came back to Merseyside to recuperate in Ince Blundell Nursing Home and has remained there ever since.

On her birthday, Liz Proffitt, Hon Secretary, visited Olive and took a basket of flowers and greetings from the League.
